ABSENTEEISM

1). What is absenteeism?

Ans. Absenteeism means the failure of a worker to report for work when he/she is scheduled to work. Absenteeism is unauthorized, avoidable and willful absence from duty.

2). What are the causes of absenteeism?

Ans. Causes of absenteeism are: -

* Poor condition of work.



* Job is tough and monotonous.



* Sickness.



* Lack of interest.



* Poor management system.



* Lack of security.



* Lack of regular leave arrangement..

3). What are the effects of absenteeism?

Ans. The effects of absenteeism are: -

* Flow of work is disturbed.



* Delay in achieving the targets.



* Overall production declines.



* Work pressure on employees who are present increases.



* Quality of work suffers.



* Workers loose wages for unauthorized absence from duty.



* Incidence of industrial accidents increases.



4). What are the measures to control absenteeism?

Ans. Absenteeism can not be controlled altogether but effective measures should be taken to minimize the rate of absenteeism and they are: -

* Proper hiring.



* Good working conditions.



* Proper housing and transport facilities.



* Effective supervision.



* Adequate safety measures.



* Regular leave provision.



* Good incentives.



* Employee counseling.



5). Define labor turnover?


Ans. Labor turnover refers to the rate of change in the workforce of an enterprise during a given period. It has been defined as “the time to time changes in the composition of the work force that results from hiring, release and replacement of employees.”
